Work continues on the edition of The Tragedy of King Lear. I hope to have the edition done for the Codex Book Fair 2019, Richmond, CA February 3-6, 2019 2019 Schedule of Events – CODEX VII 2019 – Codex Foundation
I am now in Oxford, ready to start printing my project: titled Order of Appearance: Disorder of Disappearance. The press room is located off the courtyard of the Old Bodelian library building with a lovely view of the Radcliffe Camera (reading rooms for English, history, and theology collections) out the window. The press is a British licensed version of a Vandercook proof press, it seems about like an SP20 to me.
I have been awarded a project assistance grant by the College Book Art Association to partially fund my use of handmade papers from Katie MacGregor for the covers of my upcoming book Funny Ha Ha/ Funny Peculiar. Katie has made three custom colors of cotton papers that I will print on and use for the covers of the dos a do book. The bright red and the gray papers will be the two front covers and the middle color is for the shared back cover.
Week two was devoted to making decisions and moving forward. We finalized the design of both the project and a keepsake. Mock-ups were made and remade, ideas failed and succeeded. Ellen worked her Illustrator magic and saved me days of computer frustration. We have now ordered paper, polymer plates and adhesive. The materials budget is pretty well spent.
I have received a grant from the College Book Arts Association to facilitate my making a stop motion animation of Desdemona: In Her Own Words. Using 2-dimensional flax paper puppets, word magnets and a chalkboard as the theater, I will make a short animation of my 5 act play created from reordered words of Desdemona’s original dialog from the Shakespeare play Othello.
