Navigations in RISOgraph Printing, Ox-Bow House, Douglas, MI

This three-part exhibit brings together Emily Martin and Ellen Knudson working separately and in tandem as they each explored the intricacies and possibilities of the RISO-graph machine. Both artists share a disarming directness, honesty, vulnerability, and wry humor in their approach to sobering topics.  The three parts are Ellen’s Cardinal/Ordinal Map project, Emily’s Personal Demons project, and their joint project developed using shared stencil map imagery and mark-making. The individual projects address the uneasiness they both have with our physical, cultural, and political world and the techniques we have developed to navigate these tumultuous times. and their joint RISO project developed using stencil map imagery and mark-making. The joint project started with a set of shared stencils to generate imagery for imagined maps using the prompt of a 2026 New York Times article by Anna Kode about desire paths. Desire paths are paths preferred over the paths that are prescribed to us. Ellen’s project is titled Water and Desire and Emily’s project is titled Set Paths and Desire Lines. The prints and artists books will be on display May 7 – June 6, 2026. https://www.ox-bow.org/oxbow-house https://www.instagram.com/p/DYm9W5ODikk/?img_index=1 https://www.instagram.com/p/DYnfVILDnG2HVaZO9H8Ll9RKb_EZwyG1oIcoTg0/?img_index=1
